 You and Your Environment

A person’s nervous system is constantly responding to stimull from the environment. Stimuli received by five senses: vision, hearing, smell, taste, and touch The actual experience of those senses is created in the brain.
Vision The visual system uses photoreceptors in the eye
to de light. The lens of the eye focuses light rays onto a light-se n sitiv tissue called the retina. The retina contains two kinds of photoreceptors: rods, which detect shapes and are sensitive to low light, and cones, which detect color and work best in bright light.

The Endocrine System

Functions of the Endocrine System The nervous system is not arehe only system that transmits messages through the body, the
endocrine system does the same thing, but in a different way. The endocrine system consists of a group of glands that release
chemical messages, called hormones, into the bloodstream. tect
Endocrine Glands and Their Hormones The hormones released by endocrine glands are carried through the blood to other glands and tissues of the body to affect their function. A hormone binds to a target cell and then delivers its message. The target cell then responds by initiating a specific action.

 What is memory?

The images in the photo are colored positron emission tomography (PET) scans showing horizontal sections taken at different levels through a human brain during auditory stimulation. The regions of the brain that control hearing become active when words are heard, as shown by the red and orange colors indicating increased blood flow. Different regions inside the brain become active after words are heard; these regions are associated with aspects of memory.
